On may 6th I took the 365th and therefore the last daily iPhone photo. I completed the whole year and although I did not manage to always post them on the same day, I did in fact take a photo each day, no exceptions.

There have been bad days- days on which I ran around at night searching for a suitable subject, cursing myself for taking on this project, days on which I was so busy I had no idea how to even manage taking a good photo with a tiny camera like the iPhone, one day on which I had forgotten completely and had taken just one photo, which was really the worst photo of the whole project but went online anyway, days on which I was sick with the flu and managed to take photos I liked better than some others I had taken (which amazed me, really)

There have been good days too; days on which I had to choose between lots of photos I really liked (which sometimes was an impossible task), days on which I had taken so many photos I spent a lot of time processing all of them.

Sometimes people would ask me, why not use a photo I took yesterday? To me, that would mean giving up. It would defeat the whole purpose; to really take that photo a day and to accept both good days and bad days. So I never did use a photo I had not taken that day.

I tried to not photograph the same subjects over and over again, which proved to be a difficult task. I tried to broaden my view, to not only photograph the things I had been photographing for so long; abstracts, close-ups. I took on street photography, for example.

This project has really changed many things for me. I started out being one of those people who needs that new lens badly, who thinks she can’t be a real photographer without at least owning a 5D. I am ending this project returning to the basics. I picked up analog cameras again. I no longer have a clue about new models being released. I am always carrying at least one camera with me. A compact analog camera like the Lomo, or my dslr, an analog rangefinder or maybe a polaroid camera or the kodak brownie I recently bought. It doesn’t really matter, as long as I can take photos with it.
I like using different cameras for different purposes. They all have their own different qualities and approach.

So, now what? A new project? I hadn’t decided yet on friday may 7th- I finally decided that evening though. I am still taking photos each and every day. A completely different project and for now, I will keep it to myself. When I’ve finished part of it, it will go online.

iPhone photos? Of course I keep taking photos with the iPhone camera. There’s a few nice new things and projects coming up too, so my iPhone really has to hang in there for just a little while longer..
